Darkness dares not touch;
Dares not conquer nor consume,
Dares not ever come close;
Else it dies whilst you bloom.
It hides in its own shadows
Where it cannot be seen -
Where all of light ends,
And all darkness begin.
For in a moment I shall wake
And see darkness beyond my sleep
For in a moment I shall see again,
And bring the world back from darkness' keep.
For as long as your light shines;
Where your mortal coil extends,
I shall always love your light,
And hate the darkness you offend.

Author's Comments

I wrote this poem in half an hour as an assignment in or Philosophy class. I realized its worth when my professor graded it with this added comment: "Is this yours?"

Hope you catch its depth.
